Kool FM is the largest independently owned radio station on the Coromandel Peninsula. The owners Helen & Colin McCabe have broadcast here since 1994.

From our brand new studio in Whangamata - New Zealand’s Surfing mecca and number one Kiwi summer holiday destination - we broadcast across the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula using two FM frequencies, 97.9 covering Whiritoa, Whangamata, Onemana, Opoutere, Tairua and Pauanui on the Eastern Seaboard and 89.2 on the West Coast broadcasts to Thames, Thames Coast, Kopu, Ngatea and the Seabird Coast
The population of this area swells from 30,000 during the off season to over 200,000 in the high season.

Our radio philosophy is simple:

Play the greatest variety of music, limit the advertising schedule, remove the inane jock chatter, increased interesting interviews, and try to cover every local news and events story happening.
